Landscaping Questions

What is your installation service area?

We are based out of Atwood, IL, and service the surrounding areas. We service a 50-mile radius, which includes Champaign, Mahomet, Monticello, Decatur, Sullivan, Arthur, Arcola, Mattoon, Effingham, Charleston, Oakland, and areas in between

When is the best time to seed my yard?

We recommend seeding your yard in the fall starting around late August. Our company has seen the best results from fall seeding. Fall seeding allows the grass to become fully established before the frost with minimum watering and care. Spring seeding can be done but it becomes very difficult to establish as the new seed is competing against heavy weed pressure and also requires steady watering throughout the dry summer.

Mulch vs. Rock. Is one better than the other?

Mulch is our preferred choice. Mulch helps with water retention, adds nutrients to the soil as it decomposes, can be refreshed every year for a clean look, and can protect from harsh cold weather and also from hot dry weather. Rock must be used with an edge barrier to keep rocks out of your lawn, must use a weed barrier underneath rocks, requires regular picking up of leaves and plant debris to prevent weeds, and, rocks absorb and reflect heat, making the ground and plants warmer.

What services do you provide?

We provide spring cleanup, shrub trimming, fall cleanup, small tree trimming, weed control (beds and pavement), mulching, and mowing.

Can I roll my yard?

No! Rolling your yard is one of the most damaging things to do to your yard. Rolling causes the soil to compact which can cause reduced root growth, water and nutrients to not be absorbed into soil, and loss of air flow to the roots. Our solution to a bumpy yard is aeration and slit seeding. Most times the yard is bumpy due to a thin yard, slit seeding and aeration solve this problem. If the yard is extremely bumpy and needs rolling we will always aerate to eliminate compaction.

At what height do you cut the lawn?

Between 3-4 inches is our recommended mowing height. In the spring and fall we recommend mowing the grass at 3-3 ½” because the grass is growing quickly. In the summer raise your deck to 4” because the grass is dry and not growing as quickly.

Do you do tree trimming and removal?

Yes, however, we are unable to remove trees that are larger than 30 feet and trim trees larger than 20 feet.

Are lawn chemicals harmful to pets?

When applied at the correct rate & and the proper drying time has been observed, the product is typically not harmful to pets or humans. Strict regulations are in place to ensure that all products are safe. Should accidental exposure occur, irritation of the skin or vomiting may occur if high amounts are ingested.

How often do you spray?

We have a four-application program with applications happening in March-May, May-June, Sept.- Oct, Oct-Nov. We also offer two additional applications happening June-Aug.

You sprayed my lawn. Why are there still weeds?

Our services are only one part of the equation. Proper mowing height is essential in maintaining lawn health as well as rainfall or irrigation. A stressed-out lawn is subject to weed pressure.

Can I customize my lawn care plan?

There is a base 4-step program that has additional add-ons to create a more custom plan.
